The Roadmap for 2022

Inviting others to participate and discuss the future of ElectionGuard in 2022. This will be led by @rc-ms.

Starting Points

Here is some starting points we have discussed internally as a Roadmap for 2022 and ElectionGuard 2.0

Architecture

• Refactor import/export models to DTO in all ElectionGuard Core repositories to use protobuf generated models
• Isolate the DTO models from the mathematical logic
• Refactor verifier so it does not need to be aware of guardians
• Refactor and change architecture for future scalability and developer understanding.
  • Refactor proofs to be more generic,
  • Refactor towards AggregateBallot and away from Tally

Performance

• Simplify and therefore improve verifier performance
• Performance Optimization across whole library by simplifying equations and reducing exponentiation calculations.

New Features

• Update to support ElectionGuard Specification 2.0
• Simplified guardian key ceremonies
• Add Xamarin Support to ElectionGuard.Encryption Nuget Package
  • Update to C# wrapper around C++ to use .NET6 and ideally implement Xamarin
• Create NPM Package utilizing Typescript and WASM:
  • Add compile target of WASM to C++
  • Wrap WASM in typescript and make package
• Add support for recounts
• Handle configuration of edge cases like undervotes, overvotes, and null votes

This discussion will ideally be changed to an issue following some fruitful discussion.
