Unfortunately, this is not the case with Xubuntu (and probably other -buntus).
A fix can be found below.

Open Terminal and go to the Preferences menu under Edit. Under the General tab, you will find a checkbox named “Run command as login shell”. Make sure, the box is checked.

The other day I needed to reinstall a netbook we have in the house. Unfortunately, it did not have an optical drive. So I tried to use Mac OS X’s Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows 7 USB drive to boot from.
The option was grayed out for me, though.
Here is how to enable the option for unsupported Macs.

Open “System Information” and find your “Model Identifier”

Open a Terminal

Edit the following file as administrator (sudo nano)

/Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app/Contents/Info.plist

Scroll to the bottom where you find an array of strings for “USBBootSupportedModels”

Add your device according to the logic of the strings. (MB is a MacBook, MBA a MacBook Air, MBP a MacBook Pro, IM an iMac, MM a Mac Mini, MP a Mac Pro)

The numbers can be found from your Model Identifier, but without the comma.

Save the file and open Boot Camp Assistant

If you did everything correctly, the option to create a Windows 7 USB install drive should now be available to you.

Recently, I have been trying to clean up my SSD that is in my MacBook Pro.
One file that kept annoying me was
/private/var/vm/sleepimage
. I am almost exclusively on wall power and do not need the 8 GB file. In addition, my SSD is rather small. Simply deleting the sleepimage did not help, even if you do not use hibernate mode, it will come back. Here is how to get rid of it permanently.

Turn off hibernate mode:

Note: This trick works on jailbroken devices only!

Install BeejiveIM and launch it a first time on your iDevice, then, and this is important, quit the application completely (–> remove it from the multitasking bar on your iDevice!)

Download this file to your computer

Open the file with a text editor (e.g. TextWrangler for Mac), find the phrase “Your_ICQ_Number_Here“, delete this text and enter your ICQ number. Don’t forget to save the changes.

Now, we have to copy the file to its destination path. Use iExplorer or PhoneView to browse the Applications on your iDevice and enter the BeejiveIM folder. Then copy the file you’ve edited to the “Documents” folder by overwriting the existing one.

You’re done. Launch BeejiveIM, click on your ICQ number and type in your password.

Enjoy :)
