My question is quite simple, I want to compile this code to test it myself.
I don't want to use any existing copy, as I want to modify the code for fun

I suggest coming to the 3DO discord and we can help you there. I believe some people have created a zip file with everything ready to go but not sure where those might be available. Optimus, author of OptiDoom, is on the discord and can help point you in the right direction.
