OpenSprinkler (v3) unable to connect to network with hidden SSID #247

My OpenSprinkler resides is in separate"iot" network which I would prefer to be hidden (for sake of it being harder to discover by rouge actor).

However I discovered that if BSSID is hidden and device (OS) is restarted then OpenSprinkler hangs on "Connecting to..." on LCD display.

I did a quick search on 'esp8266 connect to hidden SSID' and while there are some reported issues, most seem to suggest that hidden SSID is an outdated approach for improving security and in fact in some cases are worse than not using hidden SSID:
