In Original C&C TC Explosions from Granades, Rockets, Airstrike, A-Bomb, Ion-Cannon (not sure of this one) damage nearby tiberium fields, reducing the amount of cash they hold. This even occurs when a unit on the field is hit.


This is a nice side effect when attacking enemy harvesters - you do not just damage/destroy it but also decrease your enemie's ressources.
P.S.: I guess that's only useful in multiplayer games since in singleplayer even the slightest bit of tiberium refills the NPC's silos to max.
