  1. Why are you using a version of macOS from almost ten years ago?
  2. No one can help you if you provide literally zero information. What Mac? What hardware? What graphics card? Any logs?

Still doesn't tell us much. WHICH 2008 iMac? It could be one of at least four models, with many different configurations therein, it could be one of the ATI models, it could be the Nvidia model, or some weird hybrid

Are you using v1 or v2? V2 will not work on such old versions of MacOS. If you can get Java 8 working properly, the v1 launcher should work fine. If not, try running it from command line, like so: java -jar path/to/betacraft-launcher.jar and post the logs.
