Currently it is possible to configure the operation of CMCD in a number of ways:
The MPEG DASH 6th edition draft specification allow for supplying configuration in an MPD
Various media players (e.g. dash.js, shaka etc) allow for control via their settings
There may be proposals for others to do so (e.g. HLS manifests).
Currently the spec mentions certain aspects are 'application-defined' but it would be useful to explicitly call out these configuration options and how they can be used. There are scenarios such as #149 where it be useful allow for configuration via mechanisms such as via an MPD.
Currently the MPEG 6th ed draft only supports options for CMCD v1 but it could be useful either align CMCDv2 and/or MPEG so that they are [more] compatible - though the timing of the specs may not be suitable to make corresponding updates...
