From Lifespan Fitness SM-400. A first attempt at an STL scan was a fail. Interestingly, it appears the rest of the range all have different knobs!
The 60mm cup was created to spec: a tight fit, helped by the inherent flexibility of the material. The globular shape also leads to some instability. I am tempted to just Blu-Tack it , rather than a Sugru mod. |

The mounting strap normally provides enough stability but I see what you mean about the very rounded nature of the knob. I'd be hesitant to affix it very strongly until you determine if it needs the additional stability. Adding a small fillet of sugru (or even clay really) around the inside of the cup would possibly also help. While you're working on the knob, also take a minute to clean and lube the threads on the knob so it turns as easy as possible. Good luck! And thanks for the pictures/update Charles! |

With lots of Blu-Tack the stability is merely ok but still wanting. I shall attempt a Sugru mod before considering a new cup -- probably from an STL scan! |

I have all of the parts printed and going to Wire this evening, is anyone using an Echelon Sport, if so, what hints and were there any issues? Also which insert should I use? I will print that out tonight :) |

Hi @jkbaker4 , pay close attention to the pin labels on the ESP32 silkscreen. Follow those pin numbers when wiring all components together. https://youtu.be/-ec2tOkglAM is a build guide similar to what you will be doing. Please take photos of your resistance knob with calipers in three following orientations to have an insert designed. @doudar will try to complete one for you quickly. Hello, Please see attached... Looking at the measurement across the top it looks like the top is 49cm in width. You will see that there is only a couple of mm between the width of the top and the widest part in the middle.

Dang, that is a tough looking knob to get anything other than a friction
fit on it without maybe designing a secondary C shaped piece that slides in
from the bottom. I’m thinking I’ll make a 49mm radius insert for now and
hopefully it friction fits good enough to actuate the knob. The good news
is I’m guessing it’s a lot like the peloton knob which takes very little
torque to turn.

Okay, I think I figured out another option. Insert needs to be split into two halves that go on each side of the knob and then the knob cup can slide over the top holding them together. Should work - I'll see what I can do. |

Another possibility could be MJF/SLS (as opposed to FDM)? The cup could then be much closer to the knob shape (but may need a ToF/LiDAR scan). The costs quoted at bureaus seem to have come down a lot. |

Need help connecting. I flashed the ESP32, I was able to access via a browser and seemed to work. I then put it next to my Echelon (plugged in). Started riding my bike to turn on the BLE, opened the browser on the ESP32, scanned for my bike and it was not found. Any idea what’s wrong? |

What is output by the Echelon BLE? I recommend all other iOS and other devices be in the screen off mode. They often grab BLE servers before the ESP32 can. Try the scan and reconnect again then check the drop-down menus to see what is available. |

Also check and make sure you're using either the develop-release-candidate branch or a binary from that discussion. FTMS support is newish. If you still don't get it connected, post a scan of the device from the NRF connect phone app and we will work on it asap |

I guess there are scan apps for phones nowadays too. Never played with it
but if we could get a scan of a knob and used it to Boolean cut a solid
insert, then split the body in half vertically, that would work great.

The one that you created for me, the diameter of the inside is 50mm and a distance of 40 between the nubs. I need the inside diameter to be 60mm with a distance between the nubs of 54 mm. There was enough room before the taper. |

Good morning, I was able to get it printed last night and tested this morning the fit is perfect. I am waiting on a new ESP32 as I fried my original one when I was connecting it up yesterday morning. The new ESP32 is scheduled to arrive on Friday. |

Temporarily, if you’re unable to connect the bike to Zwift as a power meter
only, then connect the SS2K separately (to Zwift) as a controllable
trainer, that works also, just no ERG mode but sim (incline) will still
work.

Hello,
I pulled the binary from #134, loaded and ensured that the update was loaded onto the ESP32.
Opened browser on ESP32, started bike, verified that no other BLE accessed and scanned for devices. No device found.
Then opened nRF connect, connected to my bike and sent the attached…
Also attached are the screen shots from nRF Connect…

I've done some searching and I don't think Echelon supports FTMS. The great news is that there are a couple Arduino projects that have already figured out the protocol. Most notably, this one looks like it's nearly plug and play with how our decoding works. It shouldn't take much time to incorporate it. |

doudar, loaded new firmware that you sent, rebooted and it did not allow a connection to the bike. But you are getting close... You will see towards the bottom on the debugging info that it did see the device, just did not make a connection.
So what else can I send or what else do you need? |

In that last scan it should show a UUID after the advertisement. Are you sure it's not connected to anything else currently? |

I see an issue. The UUID it’s advertising isn’t for the service I’m looking
for. I’ll have a fix out in a few hours.

We are pretty sure that the ECH is sending two packets of data in serial and the second is overwriting the first before we have time to read them both. We are working on a fix. @doudar Sound right? |

Could be but we’ve also seen the second packet as is also.
It could also be that we only get the resistance setting packet when the
knob is turned.
Please let us know. The fix @kadaan mentioned is close.

Thanks for the reply late on Friday night.... I think it maybe working now. Went downstairs to run another test to get data for you and it seems to be working....No idea what it stopped then, started other than I started playing with the resistance then it started working... Do you need any other data from me (log file, etc...)

Hello, Back to the Echelon Sport The issue I am having is its not automatically shifting. I can make it shift using the buttons but nothing is happening automatically. What I am seeing in the log is: The Shift DOWN is where I am increasing the tension (yes, the tension increases). What I would expect is if I am holding a cadence of 80 (which is called by the app) and the energy is calling for 201 the tension should increase until I reach 206. |

If shift down makes the knob turn the wrong direction, you’ll have to swap the two “a” coil wires going to your stepper motor |
