Feature request: Letters to numbers in add-a-number

I would absolutely love to be able to type in JONT in the number registration and have it automatically converted to 5668. I have wanted this in all the DECT things forever.

seems like the sort of thing some client side JS could do on the input field, if you type a letter it converts it to the relevent number...

there's the alphanum branch which has this code in, however it uses the same event as the number validation so I've put it all in one funciton, but it doesn't seem to play nice on iOS safari, would like a few more eyes on it before pushing this change
