App not working correctly, blank page when opening the app #3337

When I open the home assistant app on any device (apple). It opens to a screen that has the background borders and a cog (yellow) symbol. It appears that it is not accessing the server.

How can this problem be resolved, currently none of my features set up re lights are working?

It would be really helpful if you fulfilled the information requested when you open the github issue instead of ignoring everything. (As I requested you twice here #3335)

Whats your setup? Are you accessing from your local network? Do you have remote access also configured?
Have you tried removing the server and adding it again?

I think it would be best to request to the person that setup for you to take a look if something has change.

Otherwise please export your companion app logs and submit it here https://forms.gle/Uoqz127Phx4mMTpS6

To export you have to tap the orange gear, then debugging then export logs.

Host it somewhere you trust like Dropbox or Google drive and link it there.

Uh oh, someone needs customer support training? :)
Anyways, I have a similar issue. IPhone app saying it could not connect to server (via nebucasa thing), shows a cryptic error code no user should be seeing (NSURLErrorDomain -1004), Ask In Discord link opens the Discord app but not any specific channel I guess I should guess, so at least I got here only to wake up and realize I was doing some work on the electrical panel and probably forgot to turn the server back on. I wish the app could suggest that or even show a push notification from nebucasa that my server is offline... So good yet so much to still improve! Exciting!

@xyzzer Apologies if you didn’t like my previous messages, no need for a sarcastic tone here. Have in mind that I reply to several other issues on daily basis so when the user does not provide the basic information requested it makes difficult to help each other.

Thanks for the feedback regarding the error displayed in the app, it came in good timing because this screen is being modified right now and should improve in the next releases.

@jpower76 I checked your logs and apparently your Home Assistant Cloud doesn't appear to be active, can you check in https://account.nabucasa.com if it shows that your instance is connected?

You can also do that on a browser, by acessing your local IP then navigating to Settings >> Home Assistant Cloud

Oh, totally understand the frustration and respect struggling what may sometimes seem like an effort in futility in this difficult job. Apologies if my small sarcastic jab added to your stress levels.

BTW, starting up my server and restarting the app didn't seem to be enough to get rid of the confusing message. Maybe the page doesn't handle expired tokens or otherwise unsuccessful home server connections getting stuck in a bad state. I was able to reconnect in the cogwheel menu, though that was a bit painful since I had to look through my bookmarks to find the non-memorable nabucasa URL. I'd make sure to add a test case that ensures good experience both when the home server is down and when it's back up.

Thanks for the feedback. In a normal scenario your Home Assistant Cloud URL is retrieved automatically when you configure the app locally.

I see you are a developer as well, feel free to adventure in the project and open a PR, I can help reviewing it, but of course otherwise this will be added to backlog anyways.
