What was the motivation for the dollar sign?

Why do the methods in the clients use the dollar sign? I'm just curious. Was it only to set them apart visually, or is there also a technical reason for it?

I would love to take a similar approach to create a typed database client for Firestore, but looking at the source code I think it'll be a challenge for me to figure out how you pulled this off 😄

This. We needed to use a magic character to distinguish GET, POST, and other methods from paths, but we decided to use $. There is no technical reason for using $.
