I have been installing v0.1 in wsprdeamon clients.
With this merge, is 'master' the best for me to install?

It would be helpful if there were a '-V' flag which would print out the version of the kiwirecorder.py

There is no preferred version. I try to keep them both synchronized. I was working in the master branch today because there was a pull request against it instead of jks-v0.1

"jks-v0.1" is by now a silly name for a branch. I did that long ago when I didn't really understand how git/GitHub worked (I still don't for a lot of things). But it has become embedded in a lot of things like forum posts and so can't be renamed or removed without breaking links.

I will add a version-reporting option as you suggest.

I understand the v0.1 problem and sympathize with the problem learning git. So I'll continue to install v0.1.

Thanks for -V

Okay, -V (or -v or --version) added. Current version number is "1.0"
