As a(n) api user, I generate a rapid from a character scalar (url), so that I can use that URL to specify the API.

Get SLIGHTLY cute. If someone is calling as_rapid() on a character, the only thing that makes sense is for it to be a URL. Pretend it is, and fail at least semi-gracefully if it isn't.
