Creating new maps: howto?

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Attempting to Create a New Definition Map.
2. There is no documentation on how one would do this. It seems to be a custom 
.js format, a geoJSON without attributes. Could I get this data from a KML or 
similar standard source instead? It would make things a LOT easier.
3. Can gmapsoverlay handle multipolygons?

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I would like to generate a new mapfile, or use a standard format mapfile such 
as kml or a dbase solution like PostGIS. I don't know how to go about doing so. 
Could you post a helpfile about this?

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I'm using Pentaho EE 5.2.1 on an Ubuntu 14.04 server install.
