Stops when parent cmd.exe exits

I'm trying to add winssh-pageant into a batch file.
If I use "start winssh-pageant" - it exits with the end of batch file.
If I use "winssh-pageant" - command window won't close, and when closed - winssh-pageant exits.
Probably can be reproduced when starting from Explorer.exe and then killing Explorer.exe.
Why dependency on parent process?
Please fix.
