Food is a type of capital, which is often lumped together with other types. So most people are unable to access the currency able to get them sustenance. I worked on ecological modeling motivated by sharing. In a large sense it looks to me like humans are good sharers.

I am basically building aquaponics and permaculture systems for the reason of food production. I am trying to figure out what software is best for sharing and keeping accounts of the food.

Here is some open source software for production of anything, called NRP (Network Resource Planning). It is for people doing next-economy experiments. It is a working prototype, has a lousy UI, but is a full featured ERP (enterprise resource planning) for networks, and is working in daily use. It supports any types of resources, recipes for production planning, accounting and resource distribution or sharing for any types of contribution to the processes.

Normally for food aggregation and distribution, we recommend Open Food Network, but it sounds like you need to focus more on the operational / production side.

The code, and lots of info in the wiki: https://github.com/valnet/valuenetwork

We are not selling anything, and in fact are trying to work ourselves out of maintaining NRP as others are slowly stepping up. It is an ongoing collaborative process.
