I have one MiniDexed build that does NOT use an encoder, but ONLY 4 buttons arranged in a "cross": Up, down/ok, left, right.

Hi folks,
The basic MiniDexed design is with a rotary encoder and an integrated switch/button, and there are not a lot of things that can be customized about using such interface. My question is about interfaces with more than just an encoder switch - I would like to hear from you about your experiences, e.g. how did you configure your buttons/switches.
My biggest MiniDexed has an encoder and 4 buttons (the design from miotislucifugis: #721 ). I am asking myself, what would be the best configuration for the 4 buttons. If you think that you have a good, usable configuration (any number of buttons) on your MiniDexed, please post it here and tell us a couple of words what makes it good/usable.
At the end of the day, I would summarize here configurations for the builds with e.g. an encoder and one button, encoder and two buttons, just 3 buttons etc.
