Coldtype is the home of Goodhertz, Inc.’s work in digital typography.

In addition to the coldtype python library, we are also working on Coldtype for Blender, a Blender add-on that brings the full power of modern fonts to the popular & open-source 3D art program Blender (currently in an alpha release stage), as well as Typometric, a very early stage and very experimental Blender add-on for authoring mesh-based 3D fonts (not yet alpha-released).

Though the Coldtype python library began as a way to add high-quality typography to audio plugins and to design audio plugins completely in code, the Coldtype mission has expanded over time to, well, make good software that makes it easier to set text quickly & correctly.

Yes, it’s easier than ever to set type. Web browsers make it easy to get type on a page, correctly, in any language. And programs like After Effects and Blender make it easy to get creative with letterforms. But the vice-versa is where things fall apart. Web browsers don't give you easy access to glyph geometry and customization, while creative desktop tools seem not to know anything about the last 20 years of font technology, let alone thousands of years of writing tradition from any part of the world other than Europe.

That’s why Coldtype exists: to preserve writing’s history & help you invent its future.
