Promtail Agent

Promtail is an agent which ships the contents of local logs to a private Grafana Loki instance or Grafana Cloud. It is usually deployed to every machine that has applications needed to be monitored.

It primarily:

  • Discovers targets.

  • Attaches labels to log streams.

  • Pushes them to the Loki instance.

curl -s https://api.github.com/repos/grafana/loki/releases/latest | grep browser_download_url | cut -d '"' -f 4 | grep promtail-linux-amd64.zip | wget -i -
unzip promtail-linux-amd64.zip
sudo mv promtail-linux-amd64 /usr/local/bin/promtail
