Using a German keyboard layout, the @ sign is mapped to ctrl+alt+Q. No reaction in user name fields on websites if I press that combination. I assume IE8, which I use as client, is thinking the key combination is meant for it, not for the website. An onscreen keyboard with special characters underneath the fake address bar would solve that problem.
