To save bandwidth. Could link images to full-size version.

Bump.
This one doesn't appear to be markdown specific. Should work for all images.
This is a markdown solution, may be easier. Does not specify how to apply to all images a set size. May only work individually. Suggest trying this one first and retroactively applying this to all images if it works and seems to be worth the +20 characters per image.
