Proxy Icon

The icons in the header of each window serve more than just decorative purpose. They can be manipulated just like any file in a folder window, allowing you to move, rename, and delete files in-place. This is a concept borrowed from MacOS -- the icon is a proxy for the file, not the file itself.

Actions on proxy icons

  • Double-click the proxy icon to open the file with the default application.

  • Right-click the proxy icon to display a context menu

  • Choose Rename in this context menu to edit the file name in-place

  • Click and drag the proxy icon to move the file to another location. Hold Ctrl to copy or Alt to make a link.

  • For folders or executables, you can click and drag another file on top of the proxy icon to drop it in the folder or open it in the application.

  • Hold alt and double-click the proxy icon to display the file properties
