- Fixed rare bug where pieces could warp during flip inputs
- Overhauled scene transition logic to avoid rare crashes
- Snappier button hover sounds
- Eliminated black flicker on avatar customization screen
- Stability improvements
Last week, we made the piece flipping more lenient for players who hit the two buttons a few frames apart. But a very naughty player noticed you could abuse this in a very silly way to warp pieces across the playfield. Naughty, naughty! We've given the piece flipping behavior one more tweak to prevent further naughtiness.
There's also a handful more minor bugfixes and stability improvements here and there, including one more attempt to patch the elusive bug which is causing the game to suddenly exit after a puzzle. Let me know if you see any other weirdness, I'll try to get to the bottom of it!

- Easier 180 flip inputs
- Restarting tutorial with 'R' now retries one part, not the entire tutorial
- Tutorials are no longer labelled as 'Difficulty: Very Easy'
- Better tutorial duration estimates
- Fixed dialog where Fat Sensei referred to the obsolete "Cheat Settings"
Our Turbo Fat experts noticed you can flip pieces by hitting both rotate buttons. But this was tricky because if you pressed one button a little earlier, the piece could wiggle out of place. Oh no! We heard your cries, and we've loosened things up so those kinds of flips will work like you want them to work -- even rewinding the piece into place if it needs to. It's magic!!
If you haven't learned about piece flips yet, go try the "Meet Spins" tutorial. The tutorials in general aren't just for beginners -- they're jam-packed with advanced techniques to boost your scores no matter your skill level. Make Fat Sensei proud!

- Added workaround for post-puzzle crashing
- Fixed bug where 150+ combos could cause funny stretched creatures
- Creature editor no longer disables conflicting parts (beaks, etc)
- Added more community monsters
I thought of a simple change last night which should hopefully fix the last of these post-puzzle crashes. Fingers crossed!
I also snuck in a few small fixes, including a bug which I didn't think anyone would notice -- where getting a 150+ combo could cause some funny graphical problems. How did anybody get a combo this big!? You are all crazy! Please keep it up and let me know if your crazy scores break any more parts of my game 😀

This release focuses on game balance and a few usability tweaks!
Bugs
- Added workaround for some crashes after puzzles.
- Extra logging to help diagnose crash causes.
- Career Mode progress board is aligned for all resolutions.
- Fixed a few gamepad/keyboard navigation issues.
- Resolved issue in "The Last ¥100" where the onion didn't appear in some cases.
I've fixed a few minor keyboard/gamepad navigation issues which forced players to use the mouse on a few screens. This release also includes a few fixes targeting the crashes affecting some users, so please keep those reports coming! The Windows version includes a debug launcher, turbofat-troubleshoot.bat
. If the game still crashes for you, running it through this launcher will log detailed info to a console to give me some extra info. It really helps!
Improvements
- Holding the skip button now skips choices in cutscenes.
- Cutscenes can now be advanced with the mouse.
Game Balance
- Adjusted grading scales for all levels; high ranks are easier, low ranks are harder.
- Decreased difficulty of levels: "Fruit Salad", "No Smoking Section 2".
- Easier grading for training levels.
- Easier grading for particularly difficult levels: "Back To Back", "Serving On A Rocket", others.
My original philosophy for the grading scale was that the highest 'SSS' and 'Master' grades should be for absolutely flawless play, but it feels a little unfun to have the grading be that strict so I've loosened it up a little. This was especially noticeable for the training levels, and a few of the more brutal levels in the bonus content.
Additionally, I wanted to pat novices on the back and give them good grades for low scores -- but based on community feedback, I was overdoing it a little! So I've raised the scoring requirements for the lowest grades.

Wow it's been a busy month! We've gotten tons of great feedback from the Turbo Fat community, and I've added a ton of new features and fixed a few bugs as well.
Most notably, this release a new difficulty menu, better tutorialization, improved level mechanics and a few bug fixes.
Bugs
- Fixed potential sources of crashing after puzzles.
- Fixed mouse flickering with simultaneous gamepad/keyboard input.
- Fixed gamepad/keyboard focus issues with the settings menu.
- Fixed freezing when interacting with the troubleshooting console.
- Fixed cutscenes which shouldn't play after failing and retrying in Adventure mode.
- Fixed sound glitches when switching saves during puzzles.
- Fixed edge case where launching Adventure Mode could immediately skip to the "You Lose" screen
- Added debug launcher for enhanced logging and crash reporting.
Based on playtests, this new release fixes crashes for most players! But just in case, the Windows release now includes a debug launcher, turbofat-troubleshoot.bat
. If you're still experiencing game crashes, this launcher logs detailed information to a console which will help us determine the cause of the crash. Thanks so much for helping out!
Improvements
- The level title is shown while playing a level.
- Avatar Color pickers now default to the selected color.
- Chewing sounds can now be disabled in the settings menu.
- Added puzzle restart button to settings.
- Difficulty can be adjusted with a new difficulty menu.
- Each save slot now has its own difficulty.
- Removed "Feeding Animation" setting.
I've added some new community-requested features, most notably a Difficulty menu which pops up the first time you play! These are the same options which were available through the Settings menu before, but they can now be customized per save slot, making it easier for those of you who want to retry the game on a harder difficulty.
Adventure Mode
- Added first-time explanation for Adventure Mode.
- Added first-time warning when quitting/restarting a level in Adventure Mode.
- You can now play the boss level, even if you've already played six levels.
A couple of one-time popups now appear in Career mode, like “Try to get to the boss level!” or "If you quit, you'll have to start over!" Hopefully this isn't too annoying! It only shows up once unless you reset it.
Tutorials
- Simplified cake tutorial with easier, non-random piece order.
- New hints and visuals for cake tutorial after mistakes.
- New demos for combo, spin tutorials after mistakes.
This release also improves the tutorials, giving more hints and demonstrations if you get stuck. Just keep trying, and eventually Fat Sensei will give you a picture, or show you how to do it!
Levels
- Tomatoes indicate clogged lines for levels such as Slow Service.
- Asparagus Vault, Checkerboard Vault: Food disappears faster.
- Carrot Alley, Fruit On The Top: Line pieces spawn vertically.
Levels where you can't clear lines normally now have a visual indicator in the form of a cute tomato. Her name is Stoppy! She even has her own icon so you know which levels to avoid.
Nice to meet you! |

With the surge of new players comes a surge of bug reports—oh no! This release is all about stability improvements and bug fixes. Thanks for your patience!
Key Changes & Fixes
-
Threading Disabled for Stability: Threading was used in two areas: to smooth out the game's startup and speed up shark level loading. However, for some unlucky players, it caused crashes and freezes. To prioritize stability, threading has been disabled.
-
Scene Transition Tweaks: I’ve cleaned up the code handling transitions, like the ticky-tacky block effect, to reduce crashes after levels finish. This should make things smoother for everyone.
-
Fat Creatures Bug Fixed: Fat creatures on the Avatar screen were sometimes saved as skinny—this was an oversight during the Creature Editor overhaul. It’s now fixed, so your creatures will stay as you designed them!
-
100% Completion Bug Fixed: Some edge cases were preventing players from reaching 100% completion when cutscenes were skipped. That’s resolved now, so completionists can rest easy!
-
Grade Cutoff Adjustments: I’ve revisited the grade cutoffs for a dozen levels:
- Easier Levels: Levels like "Angle Grinder," "Chompo And Bitey," and "A Little Extra" should now be a bit more forgiving.
- Tougher Levels: Levels like "Asparagus Trio" with overly generous time limits have been tightened up.
Other Improvements
-
Spanish Localization Improvements: Special thanks to Hish from the Turbo Fat Discord for helping refine the Spanish translation. I’ve also adjusted how translations work—fields now respond correctly to the game’s language settings instead of the operating system.
-
Community Contributions: Added a few new friends from the Turbo Fat Discord community. Hello, new friends!
-
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed the receipt shake effect on the results screen.
- Fixed an issue where the camera wouldn't shift to a new customer when restarting puzzles in Adventure Mode.
- Cleaned up cutscene dialogue typos (thanks to everyone who reported them!).

This is the final version which will go up on Steam on the 15th! It includes a few minor bug fixes but no major changes.
Fixed a few messages which were not being translated into Spanish.
Fixed a few clever ways to soft lock the tutorials. You really had to go out of your way, but it was possible!
Fixed some edge cases related to Sharks. Feeding a shark during Initial DAS resulted in a long delay and a weird "boop" sound, as though a nonexistent piece had landed. Sharks were also allowing you continue your combo for two additional pieces after feeding, instead of only one.
Fixed some issues on vertical displays, such as cutscene dialog appearing in the middle of the screen instead of the bottom, and the Training Menu speed slider not being centered. Turbo Fat is really meant for horizontal displays -- but we'd still like it to look as nice as possible.
Fixed an issue with brown dust on night chalkboards. The Night Onion's darkness affect wasn't being applied to the dust, so the chalkboard didn't look chalky, it looked... browny.
We're looking really good for the final release in two days! I'm going to try very hard not to touch the code very much until then. There are a ton of little code cleanup tasks I'd love to take on, but my time is probably better spent playtesting the game and making sure nothing breaks on release day. Wish me luck~ 🤞

Gosh I've been busy! Level goals, controller improvements, improved menus, and tons of smaller tweaks to Career Mode, controls, and a billion other things which came out of playtests. Thanks so much for helping playtest, the game has grown so much because of your help!
Levels now give you a goal up front, such as "Earn ¥250 in 3:00 for an A rank!" This is especially helpful in Career mode, since it tells you how to beat the boss level. It was kind of a secret before! This goal is also shown after the level so you can see how close you came.
Lots of controller improvements! Analog sticks are now supported, and the guideline gamepad controls have changed to be more comfortable. (If you prefer the old controls, they're still available as WASD inputs.) Also, if your controller comes unplugged while you're playing the game, the game will pause.
Menus should be a little easier to navigate. The selected menu buttons is brighter and glows slightly. Also, I've changed buttons which used to say "Quit" to saying "Main Menu" or "Back" so that you don't quit the game by mistake.
The mouse cursor hides itself if you use a keyboard or gamepad.
There is a settings button in cutscenes now, so you can adjust the volume or quit the game.
There's now a save indicator shown in the bottom right corner when Turbo Fat is saving its data! And I've removed the save scum prevention code which would send you backwards in career mode if you quit during a level! You can save scum to your heart's content, you naughty people.
The obscure Soft Drop Lock Cancel setting is now disabled by default. It was driving some players crazy, but you can enable it if you prefer it!
Clearing a career region now restarts the career day so to give you a fresh start! Before, you were kind of incentivized to quit to the main menu so you would have a chance to reach the boss level, which was silly.
I also fixed a ton of smaller bugs some of you reported! If you reported a smaller bug and you don't see it mentioned here, I probably fixed it. But you can check the list of known issues if you're not sure!

New results screen, better ranking system, cool visual improvements and some minor career mode enhancements!
Each level now ends with a results screen which breaks your score down into boxes, combos and all that extra stuff. It builds up with a pretty bar graph and Fat Sensei gives it their stamp of approval... or disapproval! There may be a secret grade if you fall well, well below their standards...
A new ranking system is based on per-level player data, instead of algorithms. The algorithmic approach didn't work for some of the more unique levels, and the new system has also been tuned to be gentler for levels in the two introductory areas, so new players won't be discouraged by low grades.
There are some visual improvements such as an outer-space background for outdoor cutscenes, and a smudgy effect for the chalkboards.
Career mode now gives some better feedback as your approach or reach your goal! I was worried people wouldn't understand what the mode is about, so hopefully now it's clear you're trying to reach and clear the boss level. There are also hints shown below the levels, and more advanced hints are shown as you progress through the game.
There are also a lot of small bugfixes, including some rotation bugs on the level "One Step Ahead", and a bug where especially hungry red sharks would sometimes eat an entire tetromino or pentomino by themselves. Leave some for the rest of us, you guys!!
