Thank you very much for your PR! We faced same problem in the last few days. My solution is here: a3b1a3f#diff-94c24eb9b86b57fdad561b67eb935abfR12
When running VBoxLinuxAdditions.run without your fix, could vbox* scripts be found in /etc/rc.d/init.d/? If so, we can mv them to /etc/init.d/ and insserv them. Which solution would be better for us?

In case VBoxLinuxAdditions.run found /etc/rc.d/init.d/ directory it create init scripts within. So, yes, we can move scripts to correct location and then insserv them. It will work.
But imho the /etc/rc.d/init.d/ directory and only script in this directory just lost in vyos file system. Seems they not uses at all.
We'll commit a bug fix request to vyos bugtracker soon. Lets see that vyos team think about this directory.
