You could add a harness that this logic covers all valid
char
values and that it doesn't produce any invalid ones. For example, I wrote a harness that uses the same logic here, but add two assertions (if I understood this correctly):The assertion of the

Is it useful to eliminate branches like you did in the
bool
case? If so, we can use:or something simpler (if possible). This sets the last bit only if the value is 0.
