Roadmap to Production
On this page we have EduCloud Roadmap for 10/2014 - 10/2015. The document is updated when ever necessary.
Pilviväylä/EduCloud pilot will be launched in Tampere (New Factory). Preliminary program goes as follows (changes more than likely): [Program here]
- Event will have own registration which will be opened 15.9.2014. Address will be given here and in social media.
Responsible body is COSS, which will focus on following areas:
- Acting as the community manager
- Coordinating the open source community under the consortium
- Building a global EduCloud community
- Marketing and communications regarding the global community through a strong international open source network
- Promoting educational cooperation both in Finland and internationally
- Forming partnerships with other open source centres across the world and advancing EduCloud in collaboration with them
- Advancing EduCloud with international non-governmental and non-profit organisations
Officially EduCloud Consortium will start in Jan 2015. By that time agreement has been drafted and processes are clear (enough) so that everyday life can begin. Consortium will take the deelopment lead for the following items:
Development item 1: Procurement process
- Jointly with Ministry of Education and Ministry of Finance
- locally configurable
- process management tool
Development item 2: License management
- build-in (open source) and external (closed/open integration via APIs)
Development item 3: Payment transactions management
- build-in (open source) and external (closed/open integration via APIs)
At the govermental level organizations will co-operate between Ministry of Education and Culture (lead), National Board of Education, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Transport and Communications and CSC. Ministry of Education will also act as bridge towards Estonia.
This body will be responsible for:
Development item 1: authentication & role management to production level
- Requires co-operation between Ministry of Education and Culture, Ministry of Transport and Communications and National Board of Education (opintopolku)
- CSC assists in technical design
- Implementation from private sector

Development item 2: X-Road REST support and integration patterns
- X-Road REST support requires co-operation between Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education and Culture, Estonian Information System Authority (ria.ee). Read more from X Road REST support and integration patterns
Development item 3: 'Most wanted features'
- Fixing bugs and developing minor features identified in Pilot testing. Read more [link here]
OKM & COSS will organize in co-operatio with Estonia a Joint Baltic event with pedagogical and business twist. More details will be added here later.
Development in creating new methods to authenticate are pushed together with private sector. This includes topics and areas such as:
- Develoment of next generation (wireless) authentication methods and accessories such as bracelets
- We aim to pilot bracelet authentication devices in about 100 schools (with various private companies)
- More companies and universities are welcome to join in development.
